He Aloha No Kauluwena

‘Ike iā Kauluwena, he maoli pua lehua,
He pua i mohala i ka ua Hā‘ao
O Ka‘ū Nui hiehie i ka makani.
He makana ke aloha i lawea mai,
Hali ‘ia ka lehua e ka Malanai,
‘Oliliko ka lehua i ka ua Ki‘owao
E uhi ana iā Waolani,
A ulu hou ma Nu‘uanu.
‘Ohu‘ohu Maunalua, ka nohona a ke aloha,
I hui ‘ia ke ‘ala me ke onaona o nā pua.
Ho‘ōnaona nā ‘āuna manu i kona nani,
I ka nani pūnono o ia lehua.
‘O ‘oe ia e ka wahine waipahē,
He pua kau i ka wekiu,
E hō‘ani mai ana e ho‘ohahai.
E mālama i ka pono o ka lehulehu,
I ka lehulehu huliau.
E ola, a kau i ka pūaneane.
Nou nō ke aloha,
No Kauluwena nō, he inoa.
Ua ‘ikea!

Behold Kauluwena, an attractive lehua blossom,
Blossoming, nurtured by the Hā‘ao rain
Of Great Ka‘ū elegant in enduring the winds.
Brought hither as a token of affection
A lehua blossom borne upon the wind Malanai,
The lehua sparkles in the Ki‘owao rain
Spreading upon Waolani’s mantle,
Flourishing there at Nu‘uanu.
Maunalua is adorned, a beloved abode,
Imbued by a union of sweetness and flourishing bloom.
Alluring the multitudes, by her splendor,
By the gorgeous radiance of this lehua.
‘Tis you, o gracious lady,
A prized blossom of the highest heights,
Enticing all to follow in pursuit.
To care for the welfare of the multitudes,
Through times laden with change.
May you thrive and flourish all the days of your life.
For you, this affectionate expression,
In your honor, O Kauluwena.
It is known!
