Helen “Lady” Solomon Kamanā was born in Kohala in 1908. A native speaker of Hawaiian and Spanish, she is a passionate advocate for Hawaiian language and cultural revitalization. Tūtū Helen’s childhood memories are rich with rare first-hand accounts of early 20th century plantation life.
