Early census records dated
from 1831-1860 for the Hawaiian Islands were strictly statistical counts
to determine size of population. These records are not indexed. The State Archives does not conduct searches of the records. Those interested in a particular census will need to visit the State Archives' office and view the desired census on microfilm. Microfilm copies of these censuses are also available at various Family History Centers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The census records are incomplete. Records for
a specific district or for an entire island may not be available for a
particular census year. The census is organized by year, island and districts.
If you would like to know if a specific district is available for a particular
census year, please contact us with your request at archives@hawaii.gov
